Print PDFNutter’s Labor, Employment and Benefits practice group presented “The New Massachusetts Leave Entitlements: Sick Leave, Parental Leave and Victims of Domestic Violence Leave” on May 14. The presentation focused on the new Earned Sick Time Act, approved by Massachusetts voters at the polls last November, which is scheduled to go into effect July 1. For months, employers large and small have asked how to interpret the law, and have raised serious concerns over their ability to be in compliance as of the effective date. Some employers are pushing to delay implementation, though the Attorney General has opposed such efforts.
On April 24, The Attorney General’s office released its draft regulations, offering at least some guidance as to the meaning of the new law. Participants reviewed and analyzed the regulations and pressing questions, and discussed the Commonwealth’s new Parental Leave law, as well as the new Domestic Violence Act.
